Doorbell/Visitors arriving
So here we are looking to take our dog out of that explosive excited situation of when the door knocks, and guests arrive. We want our dog to avoid hitting that spike of emotion as much as we can that can lead to jumping up and try to promote calm instead.
-
Pre fill your snuffle mats/Frozen kong/Licki mat
-
Doorbell/knock goes
-
Call your dog with a light bright tone of voice and pop them behind the baby gate or behind a barrier.
-
Place down snuffle mats or licki mats.
-
Close the baby gate.
-
Be calm and take guests into the living room.
-
Give your dog that chance to acclimatise to the guest
-
Once your dog has had time to decompress then bring them through to meet the guest.
This new routine should calm our dog and let them body forget about the old routine.
