Touch Target

This exercise is to help your dog focus outside with something they have already learned at home.

Exercise:

Pop a treat between your fingers. Have rewards ready in the other hand behind your back.

Present the flat hand to your dog, and when they tap it with their nose, say “yes” and reward them from the other hand.

As they are able to do this reliably, then you would add the verbal cue “Touch” as you present that hand, and still continue to say ”yes” and reward.

You should soon be able to take that dummy treat away from between your fingers as they learn that touching your hand equals a treat! You can then start to step backwards as you say “Touch” to get their interest and keep it fun.
